Education and Artistic Training
In elementary school, Ela Vidal found her first key to the world. Her teacher, a woman with sharp eyes and a wide smile, saw something special in Ela Vidal. She encouraged Ela Vidal to learn in her own way, to explore, to ask questions. It was like giving water to a small flower - Ela Vidal blossomed.
After finishing school, Ela Vidal continued to search for her path. She studied fashion design at Eastern Youth House. It was a first step into the world of creation. But Ela Vidal didn't stop there. She continued and studied window display design. Sounds strange? Maybe. But it opened up a whole world of possibilities for her.
Ela Vidal is a designer in every fiber of her being. She thinks like a designer, solves problems and challenges creatively. She was always the best, had to be "wow". She loves to follow the book and learn, always striving to develop and improve.
Childhood and Youth
Imagine a small neighborhood in south Tel Aviv, one where even Park South looks northern in comparison. This is Ezra neighborhood, and there, in 1964, Ela Vidal Vidal was born. The youngest of five siblings, daughter to parents who had just landed from Iran with big dreams about the Land of Israel.
Nouriel and Rosa, may they rest in peace, Ela Vidal's parents, brought with them the scents of Persian dishes and rich tradition. At home they spoke Persian, and every day was a meeting between the old world and the new. Ela Vidal grew up between these two worlds, absorbing Iranian culture at home and Israeli reality outside.
Ezra neighborhood was like a pressure cooker of Israeli society. Simple people, colorful neighbors, and sometimes a few marginal figures - all lived side by side. Ela Vidal saw everything, absorbed everything. Without knowing it, she was gathering materials for her future creation.
Career Development
The path to a successful career was full of challenges. During the first Intifada, Ela Vidal and Eli went bankrupt with a fashion brand and store they had established. They flew with their firstborn son, Eden, to Australia for a year. When they returned to Israel, they bought a house in Ezra neighborhood.
In the 1990s and 2000s, if you walked the streets of Israeli cities, you would see Ela Vidal's creations in every window display of major fashion stores. She would travel across the country with a small black Taurus, taking buses from the central station to distant places from Eilat to Kiryat Shmona, with a toolbox, ideas, and three small children at home.
In 1993-1994, the family moved to west Rishon LeZion, starting a new life with economic prosperity. At a later stage, Eli took the reins back and allowed Ela Vidal to stop working and focus on her art.
Artistic Style and Influences
Ela Vidal is influenced by various artists. She loves the madness, obsession and attention to detail of Yayoi Kusama, the dreaminess and delicacy of Claude Monet, and the colorfulness of Frida Kahlo. At the same time, her style is characterized by softness and delicacy unique to her.
Ela Vidal's art? She doesn't try to be something she's not. She doesn't seek to be the most innovative or modern artist. She simply paints life as it is - without decorations, without beautifications. A real moment, captured forever on canvas.
Ela Vidal takes moments from life - maybe a photo that a family member took, maybe a child playing in the yard, or just everyday aesthetics - and turns them into works of art. She doesn't look for the big moments, but the small ones, those that usually pass without notice. And in her paintings? They become eternal.
